Glen Eira City Council: Windows 10 SOE, Group Policy and Mobile Workforce Plan

Windows 10 SOE

Industry: Local Government

Company Size: 500

The Customer

Glen Eira City Council (GECC) with 1000+ staff is a mature shire and is situated 10 km from Melbourne’s CBD and is close to Port Phillip Bay, the Mornington Peninsula and Chadstone Shopping Centre.

The Problem

GECC was experiencing problems with the existing SOE for new HP laptops and were seeking to create a ‘Mobile Workforce Plan’ including a mobile device policy to help them define user standards and personas.

The Solution

Olikka provided GECC with a new Windows 10 SOE focused on mobility, a group policy health check and update to meet best practices as well as assisting with the creation of a ‘Mobile Workforce Plan’.

Olikka built a new SCCM Primary Site Server, moving away from Zendesk, with a local SQL instance and configured with typical SCCM roles. This was used to deploy the Windows 10 x64 SOE.

Olikka provided group policy recommendations for the new Windows 10 SOE and suggested hardware options based on GECC requirements. Olikka identified that the new SOE would stabilise the environment, but a new VPN solution would be required to unlock the potential for a mobile workforce. An always-on VPN solution was implemented to improve the mobile experience.
